New European Visitor
Center in Antwerp, Belgium
> Since 1989, our Belgian operations
have conducted student plant tours following
a request by the Ministry of Education
to link education with industry. The tours
proved so popular that they were often
booked 12 months in advance. In 2005,
we opened a new visitor center, which
is expected to host more than 15,000 visitors
each year. The new center provides tours
on a number of subjects, including our
heritage and portfolio, the diversity
in our workforce, our community involvement
and environmental performance. We also
organize visits for community members,
government, media, local businesses and
employees, while providing meeting facilities
for business and civic organizations. |
Community Investment Programs
Coca-Cola Enterprises also invests in the well-being
of the communities in which we operate, offering time,
expertise and resources to provide economic opportunity,
improve the quality of life and foster goodwill through
locally relevant initiatives. This has been a commitment
from our management and board since the outset of
our business. In 2005, we gave back to our local communities
through programs, sponsorships, in-kind contributions
and charitable contributions of nearly US$28 million.
In addition, we also strongly encourage employee volunteerism
and fund-raising. Management time and other forms
of support such as business, marketing and technical
expertise add substantially to the value of our involvement.
For many programs we partner with The Coca-Cola Company,
however, the US$28 million cited above reflects only
CCE contributions.
To
maximize the impact of our community investments,
we partner with civic groups and non-profit organizations,
government agencies and industry peers on programs
that reflect our local communities’ priorities
and needs. Broadly, these investments focus on three
key areas in which CCE has special responsibility,
expertise and the ability to make a difference.
1. Youth development and education
2. Sports and physical activity
3. Environmental conservation

Operation Grass
Roots Enterprise
>
In the United States, Operation Grass
Roots Enterprise is our longstanding community
engagement program. As part of this program,
each facility dedicates an individual
to meet regularly with civic organization,
business and political leaders in their
communities. This presents a good opportunity
to discuss our business and its impact
on our community, and offer these leaders
the opportunity to visit our facilities.
Similar programs exist in our Canadian
and European territories. For additional
information on our Operation Grass Roots
Enterprise program, see our chapter on
Stakeholder Engagement. |
