At
Coca-Cola Enterprises, we work every day to earn the
respect and trust of our employees, our customers,
our consumers and our communities. Each day, millions
of consumers purchase our beverages…an act of
simple refreshment shared by people around the world.
Our job is to ensure that you have a quality product
and that you can believe in the company that brought
it to you. We believe that profitability and responsibility
are not mutually exclusive. This corporate responsibility
and sustainability publication is our first attempt
to document how we manufacture, sell and distribute
42 billion bottles and cans of beverages every year
while managing the impacts we have on our marketplace,
workplace, community and environment.
Our history is one of growth and change. Since our
initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange
in 1986, we have quadrupled the number of consumers
we serve and expanded our territories throughout much
of the United States, Canada and western Europe. As
we approach our 20th anniversary on November 21, 2006,
we feel that now is the time to take a holistic approach
to our corporate responsibility and sustainability
journey, and more clearly share with you who we are
and what we do.
Although Coca-Cola Enterprises is a relatively new
company, the local Coca-Cola bottling companies that
comprise our business have been active members of
our communities for decades. We’re proud of
the way we’ve managed our business and the support
we have given our communities. We also know that in
order to grow, we must create a future that our customers,
consumers and employees can trust.
An open and honest dialogue with our stakeholders is
important in assessing our strengths and weaknesses.
You’ve already told us two areas of critical
importance for you and our business: health and wellness
and the environment. We agree. What you will find
in this publication is a comprehensive review of our
impacts in these areas and how we manage them. It
also gives us an important benchmark as we continue
to assess the broad range of impacts – both
good and bad – that Coca-Cola Enterprises has
on our communities and the environment. It is often
said that you can only lose your trust in someone
once. Ultimately, our legacy will be built on the
trust that our stakeholders already have in us…and
we must ensure we are creating a future that they
believe in and can support.
We have given our best effort in creating this publication
and, through listening and learning, we will address
areas for improvement in our reporting and our performance.
We welcome your comments, so please let us know what
you think.
