Corporate Responsibility:

Hybrid Trucks

In 2003, Coca-Cola Enterprises began working with our suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of our fleet.  The result was the creation of a 33000 GVW diesel-hybrid delivery truck – the largest hybrid electric truck currently in wide-scale use.  By converting braking energy into supplementary electrical power, each truck becomes 37 percent more fuel-efficient than traditional delivery fleet, reduces overall emissions by 32 percent, and produces less emissions when idling or stopped in traffic.  Not only does CCE have the largest hybrid truck on the road, our 142-truck fleet is the largest heavy-duty hybrid electric delivery fleet in North America.

“At CCE, adding hybrid electric trucks to our fleet is a critical component of our commitment to energy conservation climate change,” said John F. Brock, chairman and chief executive officer. “We are striving to improve all business operations that make an impact on our environment and the communities in which we operate, particularly around water stewardship, energy conservation/climate change, and recycling/sustainable packaging.”

Our work to pioneer this technology received recognition in 2007 when we were named Fleet of the Year by Beverage World.  We are also piloting the deployment of a 55000 GVW single-axle hybrid tractor, which is up to three times larger than they hybrid delivery trucks used by other companies.  With the development of this unique tractor and our continued commitment to making the communities in which we operate more sustainable through our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability efforts, we hope to continue leading the industry with hybrid-electric delivery.

By August 2008, CCE will have 142 hybrid-electric delivery trucks throughout the United States and Canada.
